Michael Coughtrie

A very warm welcome to the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences here at UBC. As you explore our website you will discover an outstanding community of faculty, practitioners, students, research and support staff working together to advance and influence education, research and practice in pharmacy. Our multiple award-winning building is a fantastic place to study and carry out research, boasting state-of-the-art facilities and a number of innovative features. For example, take a moment to explore the history of pharmaceuticals in the Story of Medicines exhibit, or check out our Pharmacists Clinic, Canada's first university-affiliated patient care pharmacy clinic.

This is a time of significant change and great opportunity for pharmacists. Here at UBC, our faculty are playing a key role in developing the profession and preparing our graduates for an exciting future in pharmacy within the rapidly evolving health care landscape. Our academic programs are renowned all over North America for being of the highest quality, and our graduates are extremely well equipped for a variety of career opportunities in pharmacy practice, research and teaching. Many are influencing the evolution of policy and practice in British Columbia and beyond.

Our faculty and graduate students also conduct world-leading research, generating results that yield real and tangible impact in areas such as the discovery and development of new drugs, personalizing drug therapy, improving the quality of patient care and treatment outcomes, and developing the practice of pharmacy. We genuinely make a difference in people's lives!

Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC fosters a collegial and supportive environment where students thrive, where research and scholarship flourishes, and where people are proud to belong. I strongly encourage you to find out more about us through this site, and of course you are very welcome to come and visit us and see for yourself what makes this such an inspiring place to be.
