Dr. Miffy Hok Yan Cheng, Assistant Professor in UBC's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been selected as one of only seven emerging researchers across Canada to receive the prestigious Terry Fox New Investigator Award. Dr. Cheng has been further honoured with the distinction of Dr. Victor Ling Terry Fox New Investigator—an award named after TFRI's founding president and scientific director—recognizing the highest-ranked Terry Fox New Investigator of the year.
This significant recognition supports Dr. Cheng's innovative research in lipid nanoparticles and mRNA delivery systems—cutting-edge technologies with tremendous potential to advance cancer treatment. Her work focuses on optimizing how these tiny particles can effectively deliver genetic therapies to cancer cells, opening new possibilities for more targeted and effective cancer therapies.
The Terry Fox Research Institute has invested $3.5 million in this cohort of next-generation cancer researchers, reflecting the critical importance of supporting early-career scientists as they establish their independent research programs. The Terry Fox Foundation's commitment to funding cancer research honours Terry's legacy and vision of a world free from cancer.
Congratulations to Dr. Cheng and all seven recipients of the Terry Fox New Investigator Award. To learn more, please visit the full media release.
