Dr. Mary De Vera, Associate Professor and Associate Dean, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been elected to the Royal Society of Canada’s (RSC) College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists as part of the academy’s 2026 class.
An internationally recognized epidemiologist, Dr. De Vera is dedicated to transforming chronic disease management through innovative multi-method research that bridges population-level evidence with patient perspectives. Focusing primarily on arthritis and cancer, her work combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to examine treatment adherence and long-term survivorship, advancing health equity, shaping patient-centred clinical care, and informing policy and practice. Her election reflects the Faculty’s continued strength and leadership in population health, treatment adherence, and patient-centred research.
The RSC College recognizes top mid-career leaders who demonstrate outstanding intellectual leadership, innovation, and contributions to addressing complex challenges across disciplines. Dr. De Vera is one of three UBC faculty members named to the College this year. Across the university, 12 faculty members along with one incoming faculty member were honoured by the RSC, including nine current professors and an incoming 2027 faculty member elected as RSC Fellows—Canada’s highest academic honour across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
The RSC will formally induct the 2026 cohort at its annual Celebration of Excellence and Engagement in Ottawa in November 2026.
