Become an Experiential Partner

Are you looking to infuse your work with more meaning? Are you passionate about pharmacy practice? Do you feel like you've got a ton of experience to share? Then consider joining us as clinical faculty. UBC Pharm Sci graduates over 200 skilled, caring and competent pharmacists each year—but we can't do it without people like you. Our practice educators are a vital link in our students' transition from theory to practice, providing learners with opportunities to apply their didactic knowledge in a clinical setting. It's the one aspect of learning that we just can't cover in the classroom. In addition, practice educators provide learners with individualized attention and feedback—an invaluable aspect of real-world learning.

There are Many Benefits of Working with UBC Pharm Sci as Clinical Faculty

First and foremost, you are taking an active role in mentoring the pharmacists of the future—preparing them to think on their feet, be responsive to and compassionate with patients, and stay abreast of changes within the industry. In addition to the personal reward you'll feel for making such an outstanding contribution, you'll be on the receiving end of cutting-edge knowledge and innovative ideas from the students you're mentoring. These nascent professionals are active learners—not observers—who are eager to apply the knowledge they learn in the classroom to a real work environment. They are motivated to learn about pharmacy practice, and the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice further fuels this motivation. Another great thing about being a practice educator? Your students can assist with organizing and administering preventative programs like cholesterol screening, blood pressure monitoring, sleep assessments, medication adherence and diabetes clinics.

Joining our clinical faculty team is a win-win-win—for practice educators, for students, and for your site. Let's dig a little further into the benefits, including:

  • your influence in training student pharmacists to provide superior care and improve patient health care outcomes;
  • the added value of working alongside student pharmacists who are educated to enhance patient care initiatives and can contribute to initiatives like projects, medication therapy management, adaptation and medication reconciliation;
  • enjoying the opportunity, for both yourself and your pharmacy team, to learn from the students—from their new knowledge, their innovative ideas and their own rich personal histories;
  • developing your and your pharmacy team's experience and skill as educators and supervisors;
  • attracting pharmacy students to the organization by helping to create a powerful network of reputable practice educators province-wide; and
  • partnering with UBC on projects and research initiatives.
