About

Alex Tang is an educator, pharmacist, and proud UBC alum whose work sits at the intersection of equity, practice, and education. As a faculty member in the Pharmacy Education Research and Leadership (PERL) research theme, Alex brings a critical and reflective approach that values inclusion, curiosity, and real-world impact to his teaching and educational leadership.

His current work centers on two key areas: 1) queering health and, 2) experiential education. Alex co-leads PrideRx, a faculty-led initiative dedicated to improving health outcomes for 2SLGBTQ+ communities through education, practice, research, and partnerships. His leadership in this space has been nationally recognized and has attracted over $200,000 in funding to support pharmacy education. As the lead for non-direct patient care (NDPC) practicums, Alex collaborates with nearly 100 preceptors across sectors including government, academia, research, and health technology. His network extends beyond local industries, with connections across Canada and internationally. His goal is to help broaden student exposure to diverse and emerging careers.

Alex’s scholarly interests include equity-informed pharmacy practice, workplace-based interprofessional education, HIV care, and patients as educators. These interests emerged from a diverse background and are shaped by his own lived experience, which includes degrees in pharmacy and education; and community practice experience in both Gibsons and the Lower Mainland.

At the core of his work, Alex values relationships and welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with (and learn from) colleagues across disciplines who share a similar commitment to a more just and inclusive health care system.
