Earlier this month the Faculty hosted the 2020 Summer Student Research Program (SSRP) poster competition, held virtually this year for the first time. The SSRP is an annual program offering UBC undergraduate students the opportunity to spend a summer working on a real-life research project with the support and guidance of faculty mentors. The program culminates with a final research poster competition and celebration where student presentations are evaluated on poster display and organization, content, and communication skills.
Recipient of the 2020 poster competition’s “Fan Favourite” award, Enav Zusman, spent the past summer investigating how the introduction of mifegymiso into the Canadian market was accepted by community pharmacists. Zusman—who worked under the supervision of Dr. Judith Soon—notes that participating in the Program was an “enriching, important and meaningful research experience” that left her motivated to continue to pursue research.
“At the end of our project I felt that we had made a real impact on pharmacy practice. My hope is that our research will lead to better support of women's reproductive health,” Zusman says.
The 2020 SSRP Poster Competition was made possible by generous support from the Bong Pang Yee Endowment Fund. The endowment was established in memory of Bong Pang Yee by his granddaughters, representing the Chow and Chang Families, for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
