Pharmacy Appreciation Month (PAM) is the annual national campaign that shines a spotlight on the pharmacy profession in Canada. Celebrated each March, PAM highlights the vital role pharmacy professionals play in the healthcare system and recognizes their dedication and contributions. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the expanding scope of pharmacy practice.
This year, students from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC participated in PAM by organizing a series of engaging events and sessions. The UBC Pharmacy Undergraduate Society (PhUS) officially launched PAM activities on March 5, 2025, kicking off a month filled with pharmacy-themed initiatives designed to educate, connect and celebrate the profession.
One of the key events was an interactive "Lunch and Learn" session tailored specifically for pharmacy students. This session provided insights into unique aspects of the pharmacy profession, offering attendees valuable knowledge and networking opportunities with industry professionals and faculty members.
In addition to educational activities, the PhUS Social Committee hosted the annual "Post Coat Party," a social gathering aimed at fostering camaraderie among students. This event gave participants the chance to unwind and celebrate their academic achievements in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.
"Pharmacy Appreciation Month is an important time for us to recognize the profound impact pharmacy professionals have on patient care," said Esther Lu, PhUS Vice President of External Affairs and UBC PY2 Entry-to-Practice PharmD student. "For students, it’s also an opportunity to engage with the broader pharmacy community, enhance our understanding of the profession, and celebrate the hard work that goes into becoming a pharmacist."
Other event topics included RSV and flu vaccines, medical devices and point of care testing, and over the counter cough and cold products. These initiatives reflect the dedication and enthusiasm of UBC's pharmacy students in promoting the profession and engaging with the community. To learn more about PAM click here.
