The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) has announced new Scholar Program and Research Trainee Program funding in support of early-career health sciences researchers. Two UBC Pharm Sci researchers—Drs. Annalijn Conklin and Jacquelyn Cragg—are among the 18 recipients at UBC.
Dr. Annalijn Conklin is an assistant professor at UBC Pharm Sci within the Health Outcomes and Epidemiology research group. Dr. Conklin’s project titled “A program of social epidemiology and metabolic outcomes research (SEMOR) to support healthy aging” will examine the social causes of obesity in women versus men and may help to inform public health strategies and interventions for preventative action on obesity.
Dr. Jacquelyn Cragg is a data scientist and assistant professor at UBC Pharm Sci. Dr. Cragg’s project titled “SCI pharmacovigilance: A drug safety platform to improve neurologic outcomes in spinal cord injury” will involve applying advanced analytical techniques to understand the neurologic effects of commonly used medication, with a goal to yield new insights into neurologic drug safety.
The MSFHR Scholar Program was designed to support early-career health sciences researchers as they establish their careers, laboratories, and programs, thereby helping to facilitate cutting-edge research for the future benefit of all British Columbians.
“This past year has shown us the critical nature of investing in health research and the talented people who improve our health system and help create healthier lives through discovery,” says MSFHR President & CEO Dr. Bev Holmes.
“As BC’s health research funding agency, we are thrilled to welcome this year’s cohort of outstanding researchers to the MSFHR community.”
