Continue to progress through the EDI priority goals as identified in 2023 (2025–26). Review priorities with the new Dean as appropriate.
Achieved Goals
Structural Change
- Hired Indigenous Strategic Manager—a new position intended to support Faculty work relating to Indigenous Initiatives (May 2023).
- Faculty EDI Committee generated priority goals based on the UBC Inclusion Action Plan (IAP) and the StEAR framework (2023). As of spring 2024, the group has completed most of the initial 18 objectives planned for the first year of implementation.
- Created system and processes for receiving and effectively handling discrimination concerns and complaints directly to Dean’s Office and SMT. Updated Faculty's ‘Resources & Steps for Harassment and Discrimination Complaints Flowchart’ (2024).
- Created Faculty Shared Events Calendar to ensure awareness of activities for all, and to share awareness of cultural holidays (2024).
- Prioritized fundraising for students from groups that are historically and persistently systemically marginalized and has created 2 specific award programs: SUPER UP and Shoppers Drug Mart Award in Pharmaceutical Science for Black Pharmacy Students (2024).
- Introduced Faculty-wide Land Acknowledgement guidelines (2023).

Research
- CORE PI Dr. Conklin was the Co-Chair of an inaugural Working Group on Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) for Canada InfoWay and has published the final report titled, "Towards Developing Standards on the Intersection of Racism and Discrimination, Material Hardship and Healthcare Access" (March 2023).
- Dr. Vu received funding from a new grant program committed to challenging gender disparities (June 23).
Interactional
- EDI Advisory Committee provided support to EDI Forum (2023 and ongoing).
- Ensured inclusivity and diversity are incorporated in all Communications content and messaging creation (ongoing).
- Relaunched EDI-Forum with Multicultural event (June 2023).
- Launched book club in summer 2023 (completed 4 book cycles by Oct 2024).
- Hosted intercultural workshop (3 sessions; 20–30 people attended) (Nov 2023).
- Hosted Indigenous author Eden Robinson (Son of a Trickster) (April 2024).
- Collaborated with the Pharmacy Women’s Health Club for Pharmacy Awareness Month (March 2024).
- Collaborated with PharGS and AAPS around EDI and the workplace (2024).
- Awarded funding through the Strategic Equity and Anti-Racism (StEAR) Enhancement Fund for "Educational Support to Foster Inclusivity at UBC Pharm Sci" to the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Forum (EDIF) to provide educational programming and community-building events that act as a hub to connect and support affinity groups and raise awareness of EDI+I issues within our Pharm Sci community (April 2024).
