Objectives
- Faculty support onboarding and training for new leaders; ADS and ADA to collaborate on enhancing onboarding relating to teaching and learning, managing student issues etc. (2026).
- Explore the creation of a professional development course focused on learning design and teaching with technology (2026).
Achieved Goals
- Launched PharmSci New Hire Orientation Course (March 2023, revised Nov 2023).
- SPIIF fund approved project to support mentorship and training for early career researchers (May 2023); delivered two events in 2023.
- Launched section on website to better support Clinical Appointments and Promotions (April 2023).
- Launched peer reviewer workshops to support faculty members involved in the Peer Review of Teaching process (fall 2023, 2024).
- Created the postdoctoral fellow handbook and supervisor handbook, incorporating details of program information and all relevant university resources to facilitate the onboarding of new postdoctoral trainees and faculty members who are supervisors of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (summer 2023).
- Launched UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Independence Research Grant to support outstanding postdoctoral fellows in developing their first research grant application as an independent academic researcher by offering a small amount of independent funding of $10,000 (to support 1 grant), to support them in making the transition to become competitive candidates for tenure-track faculty positions in academia (2024).
- SPIIF fund approved "Queer Eye for Pharm Sci: Supporting Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression Integration into Pharmacy Programs" by Tim Lim—awarded $10,000. This project will encompass a two-year professional development endeavour which delivers sequential workshops and related resources to educators of training programs to build capacity in training related to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE) (April 2024); highly rated workshop invited speakers Jaris Swidorovich and Logan Smilges (May 2024). Delivered a faculty and staff workshop on “Integrating SOGIE into Pharmacist Training Programs” . Speakers included Dr. Vaibhav “Vee” Saria (Assistant Professor, SFU), Dr. Lesley Thomas (Physician), Mandy Young (Community Engagement Coordinator, UBC), and a panel of patient partners (Sep 2025).
- Academic portfolio initated succession planning for leadership positions by creating Assistant Director positions in the BPSc and Entry-to-Practice PharmD programs, as well as an Integrated Comprehensive Examination lead. Additionally, succession planning was a topic at the annual retreat to ensure that future Associate Dean portfolios would have clarity on needs and priorities (2024). Launched search committee for new Associate Dean (Dec 2024).
- Alex Tang selected as a UBC IPE Scholar (second cohort 2024–2026) (fall 2024).
- Implemented office hours for Graduate and Postdoctoral students to provide information and support (Oct 2024).
- Maintained OEE roadshow program to provide training and quality assurance checks for practice sites (ongoing); team visited inpatient and outpatient practice sites and experiential partners in Vernon, Armstrong, Lake Country, Kelowna, Penticton, Saanich, Sidney, and Victoria (2024).
- HR reviewed and updated onboarding checklist (2024).
- All portfolios supported onboarding and training for new leaders, e.g. new Associate Deans, and Directors/Assistant Directors of Programs (2023–2024).
- Hosted experiential partner development hybrid workshop at Vancouver General Hospital, in collaboration with the BC Year One Pharmacy Practice Residency Programs Committee (Oct 2025).
- Held experiential partner development session in partnership with UBC Centre for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) virtually (Nov 2025).
