Graduate Funding Package
All graduate students in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences will receive a minimum level of financial support* as follows:
Minimum funding package for MSc students (renewable each year, subject to satisfactory academic and research progress)
Domestic MSc students:
- $31,500 per annum, effective September 1, 2025
- $33,000 per annum, effective September 1, 2026
International MSc students:
- $34,700 per annum, effective September 1, 2025, which includes an International Tuition Award ($3,200) to each student whose tuition is not paid by an external sponsor
- $36,200 per annum, effective September 1, 2026, which includes an International Tuition Award ($3,200) to each student whose tuition is not paid by an external sponsor
Minimum funding package for PhD students (renewable each year, subject to satisfactory academic and research progress)
Domestic PhD students:
- Up to $34,245 per annum, effective September 1, 2025, which includes a President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award (Years 1–3: $1,245 per year; Year 4 and later: $570 per year)
- Up to $37,245 per annum, effective September 1, 2026, which includes a President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award (Years 1–3: $1,245 per year; Year 4 and later: $570 per year)
International PhD students:
- $37,655 per annum, effective September 1, 2025, which includes an International Tuition Award ($3,200) and a President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award ($1,455 to each student whose tuition is not paid by an external sponsor)
- $40,655 per annum, effective September 1, 2026, which includes an International Tuition Award ($3,200) and a President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award ($1,455 to each student whose tuition is not paid by an external sponsor)
*A student’s funding package may come from a combination of sources, including internal/external scholarships, Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA).
Tuition and Fees
Graduate tuition is assessed as an annual program fee, to be paid in three instalments (September, January and May). This fee is the same regardless of how many credits a student is enrolled in.
As a full-time graduate student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, you are assessed fees according to Schedule A:

At UBC, graduate students are eligible for a wide variety of internal UBC awards and scholarships.
President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award
Annual Value: various
Eligibility: all new and continuing Canadian and international PhD students (domestic and international); no application required
Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF)
Annual Value: $18,200 stipend plus full tuition coverage, up to four years of doctoral studies.
Eligibility: domestic and international doctoral Students
International Tuition Award
Annual Value: up to $3,200 per year
Eligibility: no application is required; all eligible international graduate students are automatically considered
Indigenous Graduate Fellowships
Annual Value: $16,175 stipend plus tuition per year for Master's students; $18,200 stipend plus tuition per year for doctoral students
Eligibility: master's and doctoral Indigenous students
BPOC Graduate Excellence Award
Annual Value: various, minimum $1,500
Eligibility: graduate students who self-identify as Black or a Person of Colour

Annual Value: $27,000 per annum, for one year

Annual Value: $40,000 per annum, for three years

Travel Awards
UBC Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Graduate Student Travel and Research Dissemination Fund
Award Value: up to $500
Eligibility: graduate students who present a paper or poster at an academic conference, or who have an open access publishing charge
Graduate Student Professional Development Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences
Award Value: up to $500
Eligibility: graduate students in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences participating in professional development activities, including, but not limited to, attending a conference or symposia at which they are presenting a poster or an academic paper
