Narges Hadjesfandiari PharmD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Teaching
Dr. Hadjesfandiari earned her PharmD from Tehran University of Medical Sciences with top honours and has worked as a pharmacist in a Provincial Health Network and community and hospital pharmacies. She moved to Canada to pursue her PhD in chemistry at UBC in the fields of biopolymers and biomaterials and her research focused on developing antifouling and antimicrobial coatings for platelet storage bags. She served as a teaching assistant for general chemistry and organic chemistry labs during her PhD.
After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in the Devine laboratory at UBC in transfusion science, she accepted a research associate position at the Canadian Blood Services Centre for Innovation and began teaching in the Department of Pathology. She was a course coordinator and instructor in various third- and fourth-year pathology courses and actively worked to update course content and incorporate active learning methods into her classes.
Working with undergraduate and graduate students in research laboratories and classroom settings deepened Dr. Hadjesfandiari’s passion for teaching and led her to join the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2024 to focus on teaching full time. In this new role, she is most excited about designing class content and laboratory experiments, sharing her enthusiasm for science, and supporting students as they set their career goals.
