Each year the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences publishes a Year in Review document sharing achievements, highlights, and areas of progress of the 12 months prior. Despite the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Faculty has made significant progress over the past year and demonstrated continued excellence across four areas of strategic focus: Education, Research, Practice, and People and Place.
Highlights from 2020–2021 include welcoming the inaugural Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences class in September 2020, generating 10.5 million dollars in research income, and establishing the Faculty’s first award to support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis undergraduate students. Additionally, in October 2020 the Faculty commenced the implementation phase of the Pharmacists in Primary Care Network (PCN) Program. To date, 18 clinical pharmacists have been hired to support patient care in primary care network locations across the province.
“The past 12 months have been a time of unprecedented challenges, but also a time of opportunity, growth, and progress,” says Dr. Michael Coughtrie, professor and dean. “I am proud of the remarkable resilience demonstrated by our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“I look forward to continuing to work together over the coming year in pursuit of our collective vision to advance pharmacy practice and the pharmaceutical sciences.”
