Objectives
- Faculty to potentially provide site for collaborative pilot trial as part of the Contraception Abortion Research Team (CART) with the Faculty of Medicine (FoM), Ministry of Health (MoH) and College of Pharmacists of BC (CPBC) (2025–26).
Achieved Goals
- Initiated review of Pharmacists Clinic including consideration of research as a goal (Sep 2023); completed review (2024).
- Clinic expanded focus in research. Received a Ministry of Health Research Seed Grant Program for project entitled: Barriers and facilitators to pharmacist contraception prescribing (2024).
- Launched pharmacist phone line in the Pharmacists Clinic with pharmacist support for patients with real time support in rural and remote areas through the Real-Time Virtual Support (RTVS) program (Aug 2025).
- Initiated work on Ministry of Health (MoH) seed grant funded project ($72,250) regarding patient perspectives on barriers and facilitators to accessing and adhering to nicotine cessation support in community pharmacies across BC for patients with tobacco use disorder to Plan S (2025–26). Obtained ethics approval (Aug 2025); research underway.
- Initiated project with the College of Pharmacists of BC (CPBC) to conduct a quality improvement (QI) evaluation of the "Expectations of care" poster from the perspective of patients (2025).
- Received $25,000 from UBC’s Community-University Engagement Support (CUES) Fund to collaborate with BC Transplant to support pharmacists to increase public awareness about organ donation and transplantation. Ethics approval obtained in September and focus group research began. Shared preliminary findings with stakeholders at BC Transplant (fall 2025). Findings were planned to be incorporated into a new training module that will enable community pharmacists to educate and engage the public about organ donation and transplantation.
