Dr. Jamie Yuen is the Assistant Director and Clinical Pharmacist with the UBC Pharmacists Clinic. He obtained his undergraduate BScPharm degree at UBC in 2010. His community pharmacy practice consisted of a collaborative practice environment with local physicians, nurses, and social workers, telepharmacy services for Indigenous communities, harm reduction and pharmacy management. Following completion of the postgraduate Community Pharmacy Residency in 2015, he began an active primary care practice at UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences as a clinical pharmacist and lecturer. He has experience in team-based primary care in family practice clinics across the Lower Mainland. He completed his PharmD degree through UBC in 2022. His research areas of interest include digital health, generative artificial intelligence and innovation in primary care and pharmacy education. Dr. Yuen is also a course co-coordinator for PHRM 300D: Primary Care Pharmacy Practice and nephrology module co-lead.

Session Information

Description

Pharmacists will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in ordering and interpreting laboratory tests in medication management as part of recent expansion in scope of practice. The session will also include an overview of laboratory tests pharmacists are able to order and a series of cases to guide decision making in practice.

Learning Objectives
  • Identify the laboratory tests pharmacists can order and interpret as it applies to patient care and medication therapy.
  • Apply laboratory test ordering and monitoring to patient scenarios commonly encountered in community practice.
  • Design patient care plans that incorporate medication recommendations and laboratory test monitoring.
