Dr. Renée Hall is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC who has been working in family planning in Vancouver for over 25 years. She is the Medical Director of Willow Reproductive Health Centre and the lead on the UBC CPD IUD and Contraceptive Implant Insertion training program. She also works at the CARE program at BC Women’s Hospital, Everywoman’s Health Center, Elizabeth Bagshaw Clinic and the Gynaecology Services clinic at Kelowna General Hospital.

Description

Enhance your abilities as a pharmacist to effectively counsel patients on contraceptive options. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of gathering patient-centered sexual and reproductive health histories, emphasizing respectful and empathetic communication. The session will delve into various contraceptive methods, with a particular focus on Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) options such as intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants. Attendees will learn about the clinical indications, contraindications, mechanisms of action, efficacy, and potential side effects of these methods. Furthermore, the session will explore valuable resources available to support patient education and informed decision-making. By the end of this session, pharmacists will be better equipped to provide high-quality, patient-centered contraceptive counseling and empower patients to make informed choices that align with their individual needs and preferences.
