Dr. Teri Charrois is the Associate Dean of Practice Innovation and Professor of Teaching at UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She holds a BSc(Pharm) and MSc from the University of Alberta, as well as a Doctorate in Adult Education from the University of Calgary. She has held prior academic roles at the University of Alberta and Curtin University in Australia. She has practiced in a specialized tertiary care osteoporosis clinic for the last 7 years and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of Osteoporosis Canada. Teri is an award winning educator at both the local and national level. 

Session Information

Description

A much anticipated update to the Canadian Osteoporosis guidelines was released in October 2023. The updated guidelines include significant changes to the management of patients with osteoporosis, including new medications, updated lifestyle recommendations, and changes to monitoring of patients living with osteoporosis. This session will provide participants with an overview of the guidelines with key recommendations for pharmacists. 

Learning Objectives

1. Synthesize information from multiple sources to identify and classify individuals at risk for osteoporosis.
2. Develop a comprehensive approach for patients who are diagnosed with osteoporosis based on the current guidelines.
3. Evaluate the role of lifestyle interventions in the management and prevention of osteoporosis.
