MSc Program Overview

Master of Science (MSc) Program Requirements

The Master of Science (MSc) program in pharmaceutical sciences consists of a minimum of 30 credits and professional development activities:

  • PHAR 590 (3 credits) (Research in the Pharmaceutical Sciences: Principles and Methods)
  • PHAR 591 (1 credit) (Scholarly Integrity and Research Ethics)
  • PHAR 548 (2 credits) (M.Sc. Seminar)*
  • PHAR 549 (12 credits) (Master’s Thesis)*
  • 12 credits of additional courses** (up to 6 credits may be fulfilled through upper-level undergraduate courses numbered 300 to 499)
  • Graduate Student Presentation Skills Workshop

*All graduate students must maintain continuous registration in their thesis course (PHAR 549 for MSc students) during the winter (September to April) and summer (May to August) academic sessions at UBC until program completion. Similarly, all students must register in the seminar course (PHAR 548 for MSc students) during the winter session each year until program completion.

**The remaining 12-credit requirement may be satisfied through a combination of courses offered by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and courses offered by other UBC Faculties that are relevant to your field of research.
