"If you are considering graduate studies at UBC Pharm Sci but are still not 100% sure, definitely reach out to current students in the lab(s) of your interest!"
What is your research project about?
My research project aims to develop novel techniques that investigate the ability of “potential drugs” to bind and/or inhibit a specific protein target, which is crucial in the early stages of drug discovery. I arrived at this thesis topic as the Page lab is heavily involved in developing small molecules to treat cancer and other diseases, and developing better and more efficient ways to test the abilities of these small-molecules will help streamline and ameliorate the drug discovery process. The ultimate goal of my research would be to develop a novel and easily accessible assay that can be used broadly to test potential drugs in the early drug discovery processes for any and all diseases.
What are some fun activities you enjoy doing in and around Vancouver?
I love playing beach volleyball at Kits Beach or Spanish Banks, playing pickleball at Jericho Beach, getting ice cream at Rain or Shine, walking down to Tower Beach (right near campus!), and hiking in North and West Vancouver.
What advice would you give to someone who’s considering pursuing graduate studies at UBC Pharm Sci?
If you are considering graduate studies at UBC Pharm Sci but are still not 100% sure, definitely reach out to current students in the lab(s) of your interest! Interviewing with professors can give you a lot of good information, but speaking to actual students will give you more insight into the day-to-day life in research labs and expectations of grad school.
