Appointment, Promotion, and Renewal Process

The following information is for Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Clinical Professor, and Clinical Instructor applicants.

FAC-3 Clinical Appointments Policy governs the Faculty's clinical appointments process, and describes the nature and amount of contributions to the Faculty associated with each clinical rank. The Dean’s Advisory Committee on Clinical Appointments and Promotions (DACCAP) reviews applications for these ranks and makes recommendations to the Dean for appointment or promotion within them. DACCAP is composed of faculty members and experienced pharmacists who hold clinical professoriate ranks.

The Faculty invites applications from people whose contributions align with the Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor rank. An application can be submitted at any time, however DACCAP only reviews applications twice yearly. March 31 and Oct 31 are the annual application deadlines. DACCAP reviews applications by the end of the following month, and successful March (or earlier) applicants will be appointed effective the following July 1. Successful October (or earlier) applicants will be appointed effective the previous July 1.

The term of clinical appointments is up to 5 years. DACCAP makes recommendations to the Dean on term length based on the merits of each application.

An application for promotion to a higher rank can be made after 1 year of holding one’s current rank.

Before you apply

  1. Review the policy, including the Appendix, to decide if you qualify and what rank you believe is most appropriate for you.
  2. Ensure you have an up-to-date CV, preferably in UBC format. DACCAP is unable to assess candidates who do not provide a CV, and the process is greatly helped when a UBC CV is provided. UBC format CV template
  3. Write a cover letter outlining your contributions to support your application.
