Alumni Agent of Change Award Honouree
Dr. John Tse, BSc(Pharm)'88, MBA'94
John Tse is a pharmacist, health-technology executive and entrepreneur whose career spans more than three decades across pharmacy practice, diagnostics and digital health innovation. A UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences alumnus, he also holds an MBA from UBC's Sauder School of Business—a pairing of clinical insight and business acumen that has defined his work as a change-maker.
Much of what pharmacists and patients now take for granted, John and his teams helped pioneer before it was standard. During more than two decades at London Drugs, where he rose to Vice President, Pharmacy and Cosmetics, he reimagined patient intake, positioning the pharmacist with the patient in a private booth to facilitate consultations and introduced services such as pharmacy-based INR testing. He also brought large-scale robotic dispensing into pharmacies and advocated for certified technicians checking prescriptions and pharmacists administering vaccinations; ideas that are now standard community pharmacy practice.
That same instinct drives his current work. As Vice President, Commercial Development at Light AI Inc, he is advancing smartphone-based point-of-care testing that complements pharmacists' authority to assess and prescribe. As Founder and CEO of 36Eight Technologies, he is building clinical decision-support tools for personalized medicinal cannabinoid care. A vocal advocate for bringing medicinal cannabinoids into the pharmacist's scope of care, he continues to push for pharmacists to lead in emerging areas of health.
John currently serves on the Board of the BC Pharmacy Association. His work has earned the Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada's Len Marks Pharmacy Advancement Award (2017) and the BC Pharmacy Association's Lifetime Achievement Award (2021).
Alumni Future Agent of Change Award Honouree
Dr. Anita Moein, PhD'24
Dr. Anita Moein, PhD'24, is a pharmacometrician in clinical pharmacology at Genentech and a graduate of UBC’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She earned her PhD from UBC in 2024, specializing in pharmacometrics and model-informed drug development.
Anita’s research uses quantitative modelling to better understand how medicines behave and perform in patients, helping inform drug development and clinical decision-making. Her work has spanned therapeutic areas including oncology, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, with research published in leading clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics journals.
Through her work at Genentech as Principal Scientist in Modeling and Simulation, Anita continues to apply innovative, data-driven approaches to the development and evaluation of new therapies, contributing to advances in pharmaceutical science and patient care.
Alumni Builder Award Honouree
Babak (Bob) Mehr-Rahimi, BSc(Pharm)'95
Bob Mehr, BSc(Pharm)’95, is an award-winning pharmacist, entrepreneur and longtime supporter of UBC’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
In 1999, Bob founded Pure Integrative Pharmacy with a vision of bringing traditional pharmacy services together with a more holistic, preventative approach to health and wellness. What began with a pharmacy in Shawnigan Lake has grown to more than 20 locations across British Columbia, as well as a compounding laboratory serving patients and practitioners across Canada. Bob was recognized as PCCA’s 2024 Canadian Compounding Pharmacist of the Year.
Throughout his career, Bob has remained closely connected to UBC Pharm Sci. He has hired and mentored graduates, provided experiential learning opportunities for students, and supported the Faculty as a lead donor to the Pharmaceutical Sciences building campaign.
Through his leadership, mentorship and philanthropy, Bob has helped strengthen the UBC Pharm Sci community and create opportunities for the generations of pharmacists who follow.
