Get Involved in Our Experiential Program

The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPSc) program is designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Practicums are unpaid internships for students in their 4th year of the program. These practicums are a crucial component of our curriculum, offering students the opportunity to apply classroom learning within the industry. As industry partners, you will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience, fostering their professional development and ensuring they are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to your workforce upon graduation.

What Is Practicum?

PHAR 495 is a practicum course providing students with hands-on experience equivalent to one full-time term of work in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Industry is broad in nature and may include opportunities in formulation science, process engineering, quality assurance, regulatory affairs and others.

Students are expected to work full-time hours over the course of the term, either in Winter Session Term 1 (September to December) or Winter Session Term 2 (January to April).

Who Are the BPSc Students?

Our students learn about the drug discovery and development process from start to finish. They are unique in that they also have hands-on experience with laboratory techniques includingbut not limited to—analytical chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology.

By the fourth year of the program, students are able to:

  • Apply theoretical knowledge to practical applications.
  • Conduct experiments and analyze the resulting data.
  • Develop original research questions and design appropriate experimental or observational studies.
  • Collaborate effectively with others and work well in teams.
  • Communicate scientific findings and disciplinary knowledge clearly and effectively.

Senior Manager, Access and Government Affairs, Pfizer

"Pfizer has been impressed with the caliber of the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences students we’ve interviewed and ultimately worked with. We appreciate the enthusiasm with which your students embrace learning more about Pfizer and our contributions to life sciences in Canada.

It is clear BPSc students are extremely capable and bring skills, a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the projects they work on. Our first student created a well-researched reference that documents access to vaccines in Canada. This foundational piece can now be used with our employees who want a deeper understanding of this core area of Pfizer’s business."
