Admission Information

Guide for Prospective Students

The Faculty embraces a broad-based admission philosophy, taking into consideration a combination of academic and non-academic factors, to select well-rounded, mature, and motivated individuals to the PharmD program.

To be considered for admission, you must present academic achievements that include completion of all prerequisite requirements (including at least 60 undergraduate credits) and satisfy the minimum admission average. Admission to the program is competitive; your academic record will be used in the evaluation process to determine eligibility for further consideration.

Final admission decisions are primarily based on your performance in the Pre-recorded Interview Questions and Scenarios (PIQS) and Applicant Group Information.

Important Dates for Your PharmD Application

There is only one intake annually for the PharmD program. The application typically opens in the early fall prior to your intended start date. For example, the application for the 2026 Winter intake will open in Fall 2025. The deadline to apply for admission is December 1, 2025.

Academic Requirements and Prerequisites

The information below pertains to the 2026W admission cycle. If you are planning to apply in a future cycle, remember to review all admission information for that specific cycle before starting your application, as changes may occur.

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada by the application deadline to be eligible for admission to the program.

Prerequisite Requirements

A minimum of 60 transferable undergraduate credits, including all of the prerequisite coursework listed below, is required to satisfy the prerequisite requirements.

All prerequisite coursework must be completed at an approved college or university; coursework should be completed at the undergraduate level, for graded credit, within the following timeframe:

  • within 10 years of the intended program start date2; and
  • by the end of the regular academic session prior to your intended start date.

For example, if you intend to start the PharmD program in September 2026, your prerequisite courses should be completed for graded credits between September 2016 and April 20261, 2.

1 Prerequisite coursework completed for Credit/Pass during the JanuaryApril 2020 term will be accepted.
2 The Humanities / Social Sciences and Elective prerequisites are exempt from the 10-year requirement.

Admission Averages

Your admission average will be calculated on the most recent 30 credits of undergraduate coursework completed. A minimum of 70%, or a 2.80 GPA, is required.

Selection and Admission Process

The PharmD program admits up to 224 students each year. The number of applications to the program typically exceeds the seats available, making admission competitive. Satisfying the minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission. In addition to completing all the prerequisite requirements and meeting the admission average requirement, courses should be relevant to your program of study and completed in a coherent, progressively more challenging sequence. Review information in the UBC Vancouver academic calendar for Applicants from a College or University carefully on all the factors that will determine the admissibility of applicants.

Applicant Group Information

You will be asked to declare your residency as part of the application process. Eligible applicants will receive instructions on where to submit their declaration in February.

The residency information will be used to place you in the relevant applicant group.

Pre-recorded Interview Questions and Scenarios

The Pre-recorded Interview Questions and Scenarios (PIQS) component of the admission process normally takes place in early March.

Your responses in the PIQS will contribute to the final decision on your admissibility if you have satisfied all prerequisites and academic requirements and are included in the admission shortlist.

PharmD Admission Shortlist

Interim admission averages and applicant group information will be used to create the PharmD admission shortlist. The shortlist is usually formed in late April when all academic evaluations are completed. There is no separate announcement about the shortlist as application statuses are updated in real time on the Applicant Service Centre. Applicants who are on the shortlist will see their application as under review by the Faculty.

In addition to admission average, applicant group information also contributes to the formation of the PharmD Admission Shortlist. Applicants from underrepresented communities in BC and Indigenous applicants will automatically be included in the shortlist if they fulfill all the prerequisite coursework requirement and present a minimum of 70% in their admission average. Preference is given to well-qualified residents of BC; however, up to 20% of the shortlist is typically out-of-province applicants.

Final Admission Decision

Applicants who are included in the PharmD admission shortlist will be ranked based on their performance in the PIQS. Offers of admission will be issued on a rolling basis to the most qualified applicants based on the ranking.

Admission averages and applicant group information may also be taken into consideration.

Additional UBC Admission Requirements

In addition to all the conditions and requirements stated above, you must fulfill any general admission requirements for applicants from a college or university stated in the UBC Academic Calendar.

Stay Connected

All admissions decisions will be communicated through the Applicant Service Centre, so make sure you check regularly for updates.
